‘The Promise of Happiness’ by Justin Cartwright

This is the book that is currently floating around in my giant handbag. It is slightly dog-earred already, even though I’ve only managed to get to page 16. This is no indication of the quality of the book, as so far it seems pretty good – it’s just that every time I pick it up to read, the phone rings/door knocker knocks/toast catches fire under grill/stranger feels compelled to tell me life story. If I ever make it to the end of chapter one (let alone the end of the book itself) Iwill attempt a fuller review!
