Greetings from Derby

This is an old postcard of Derby. I’ve never been to Derby. HOLY CRAP, who was the picture editor for this postcard company? Someone on glue I think. What exactly are they highlighting here, the Stalag-style shopping centre or the five (yes, count them) phoneboxes available to shoot-up in? I’m amazed there are so many bus-stops here – I would imagine one way tickets are the order of the day, for people wanting to leave.

If you feel this is doing Derby a dissevice, please feel free to leave a comment and put me right. Hey, maybe it’s worse!

The busstops are probably there due to the large number of German tourists visiting … part of the all-new 1962 Baedeker Raids Tour.
The phoneboxes are no doubt there to accommodate former employees of “Visit Derby”.
The shopping centre is ‘just a model’.
This postcard is a masterpiece of PR. They wanted a quiet little town and this certainly does the trick.
