Covent Garden by Clive Boursnell

Look at these photos. I adore these photos!

They were taken by Clive Boursnell – they are of Covent Garden, London between 1968-1974. Oh, my! Images like this get me so excited about photography – I just want to run outside with my camera right now and start shooting. It’s dark though; dark and raining. And cold.

Maybe tomorrow.

So yes, today’s Covent Garden is a wildly popular tourist hotspot – full of fancy-pants shops and coffee bars. Back then though it was a huge fruit, veg and flower market, attracting… well, you can see who it attracted – wonderful looking characters!

The photos look really contemporary, don’t you think? I’d be impressed but not surprised to see them appearing on my Instagram feed (and I would heart them all – love, love, love).

PS – what are they drinking in the above photo? Is that beer and milk mixed up? They look happy enough drinking it if it is!

Fantastic images…and yes these look like they could have been shot last week. My favorite is definitely the young aesthete waiting for his flowers…so bored and so beautiful.

As for what they are drinking, my guess would be irish coffee but who knows…maybe it was milkshake day at the local.

I agree with roshenk! The shoots are fantastic and the lads may be drinking Irish coffee using milk instead of cream.
