Beige-oholic

You wouldn’t believe how many shades of beige exist in the worlld of paint manufacturers. I used to be sure about what beige was – expecting maybe a subtle shift of hue to enable a liht, medium and dark version of the (not very exciting) colour. But, oh no – there are HUNDREDS! I can’t decide between ‘Porcelain Glow’, ‘Twisted Willow’ and ‘Gentle Fawn’ to name but three. (I’m only choosing beige because I need things done in a hurry and need time to work out which of the non-beige colours – of which there are MILLIONS – I want).

The reason we need the aforementioned paint is because I went a bit mental in DFS (sofa store) and ordered two new sofas for the front room! And we really need a new carpet so I ordered one of those as well. Then I caused a fuss (and rightly so in my opinion) because I HATE the artex on the walls so, so, so, so much! It wouldn’t be so bad if there was just one pattern used, but I think the guy who lived in the house before must have been doing an evening class in artex bodgery (or “How To De-value Your House In 6 Easy Lessons”) as there’s a different pattern on every wall! You can tell where he got bored doing the ceiling too – he starts doing swirls for a while instead of jibby-jabby pointy bits – completey random – completely crap. Nasty. So, a plasterer is coming tomorrow to give me the flat walls I have always desired and I’m SO excited!

[UPDATE – after HALF AN HOUR in B&Q, umming and ahhing over aforementioned spectrum of beige paint – I have finally decided on ‘Toasted Almond’. I hope I’ve made the right decision. I hope I manage to sleep tonight…]

We don’t Artex here in the US as liberally as you do there. It was something I noticed when we lived there. Our rental house wasn’t too bad (but, oh, the wallpaper), but one of my best girlfriend’s house had Artex galore, including a FRAMED ARTEX LANDSCAPE in the foyer.
Sometimes beige is just what the designer ordered.
