I am so happy to be able to introduce Sandra Jordan, who like me has a penchant for proper coffee and Pringles (not together) (ok, together) – she has taken some amazing photos and has totally inspired me to have a go at some long exposures . Over to you, Sandra…
I’m very lucky that I get to fulfil the two passions in my life, travel and photography.
I’m intrigued by foreign countries and cultures and drawn to simple photographs of line, texture and form and I like to find the peace within an image in an otherwise quite hectic world.
I like the idea that once I have taken a photograph, the place may never look the same again.
Your top five photographers
Wow it’s tricky to even limit it to a top ten, there are so many photographers out there that I admire but (in no particular order)…
Your top five snacks
- Pringles (although based on the amount I can eat in one sitting, not sure that would be counted as a snack)!
- Really good dark chocolate, even better if it’s got almonds in.
- Espresso (I know that probably doesn’t count as a snack but it’s the one constant I have every day, but I’m very fussy and it has to be really really good with a nice thick crema).
- Ginger biscuits.
- Okay now I’m stuck, can I have coffee again?
Your top five photos you’ve taken
- Barn & Aurora
This was the first time I saw the Northern Lights, after not seeing it once on my previous 3 week trip and then missing the best show in 10 years the night before because I was inside chatting to the woman I was staying with! I was determined to not miss out again so when the Aurora forecast was good, we drove to the North side of the island for a better chance of seeing them and were very richly rewarded. It is such an incredible sight to see and on that trip I was lucky enough to see it on 6 nights, something I can highly recommend if you ever get the chance. - Blue House, Chefchaouen
Chefchaouen is a beautiful town in North Morocco with a very photogenic Medina with its’ intricate Andalucían influence, arches, arcades and porches, and narrow cobbled alleys that twist through rows of bright blue-washed houses. There’s a photo around every corner! - Trees
Part of my ongoing Trees project, I love the simplicity and peacefulness of this image. - Nuns at Sacre Coeur
I took a quick trip to Paris in the summer to start a project about Life by the banks of the Seine and whilst there visited Sacre Coeur. As I was coming out I saw these nuns leaning over the wall looking at the view over Paris. I had to be quick to get this shot before they moved away. - Southwold Pier
I received a Lee Big Stopper filter as a present and so have recently started practising with long exposures. It is a look that I absolutely love but it takes a lot of patience and a lot of clothes (you have to wrap up when standing on a UK beach out of season for hours on end)!
Your top five dream photo locations
- The Lofoten Islands, Arctic Norway (hands down the most beautiful place I have ever been to)
- Spitzbergen
- Greenland
- Istanbul
- Anywhere covered in snow!
Your top five camera-bag essentials
(presuming that camera and lenses are a given)
- Lee Big Stopper Filter
- iPhone (it has the apps on for calculating long exposures)
- My Kindle – comes in very handy when standing on a beach in the middle of Winter for hours taking long exposures!
- Remote control unit
- Lens cloth

27 April 2013 at 17:30Thanks Eva, it was a pure chance meet. I came out of Sacre Coeur and they were all standing there. Five minutes later they were gone!
