London calling

When I visit London I can hear the beating of my heart. At first the pulsing blood in my ears is loud; I am too slow and too careful. Being thrust among so many souls quickens me though and carries me along until I catch up and I realise the sound I’m hearing is now the heartbeat of the city, in tune with my own energy.

We went to soak up the pre-Jubilee/Olympic experience (more on that in a later post) – to visit all those overlooked tourist hot-spots that we’ve never really bothered with or not seen since we were kids. It was such fun! Can you believe I’m just 70 miles away but had never seen St Paul’s Cathedral before?

It was the people in London though who stole my heart and made me begin planning the next trip even before we’d left. People from all over the world. Happy, confident people allowed to be themselves. Infectious people (in a good way).

Maybe my glasses are a little on the rose-tinted side; the weather was amazingly good (a little too hot even), the hotel was decidedly cool (and not just because of the air-conditioning), and no commitments – I mean anyone would be hard-pressed not to enjoy that!

Now I am home. I’m sat here and I’m deconstructing the whole experience.

I feel lately that I’m reaching some sort of epiphany (mid-life crisis, perchance)? I can see now that allowing myself to be an extrovert is a big and part of this, as is needing people in my life (if only indirectly); sharing what I do and community. These things combined with my earlier attempts at some sort of plan are beginning to knit themselves together into what I am hoping will be a way forward for the future.

One thing’s for sure though, I’ll be back in London very soon!

Do not do this to me! I used to live in London before we moved to Belgium. When we left, I was happy to get away from all the busy busy rushing pushing crowds, the noise, the expensive often disfunctional public transport, the shops, everything… But slowly, slowly, with every return visit… London has seeped back in and I miss it now… so much. And you’re not helping. So stop it! Ok, thank you ;-b

I miss London! I still can’t believe I haven’t taken my cameras there, we lived there for a year a while ago but being a tourist in London is my favourite thing.
