Big spender

This is a bank-holiday weekend in the UK, so I have padded out my Monday off work with the Friday and Tuesday as well, so I am now beginning my five day weekend. Hooray! And the sun is shining so I am expecting to be overcome with barbeque fumes as I walk down the street into town later tonight. Who am I kidding, I’m driving.

I brought two houseplants today which is probably going to prove to be a bit of a waste of money as I have the ninja touch of death as soon as a plant crosses the threshold. This little heather isn’t strictly a houseplant, but we’ll see what happens. It’s on the kitchen windowsill about six inches from the tap, so hopefully I’ll remember to water it…

I some how feel this fern (below) is on shakier ground when it comes to getting itself watered regularly as it’s in the lounge and therefore three whole rooms away from the kitchen tap. Worryingly it also says it requires ‘misting’. Hmm, it’s probably a good thing that I’ve taken this photo – something to remember it by, because look how pretty it is (thats my granny’s china terrier looking down in admiration)…

Now, I read a lot of blogs, and a lot of these people who write these blogs seem to wander into charity/thrift/op shops and stumble out with armloads of beautiful vintage curtains and tablecloths etc for mere pennies (that’s how it seems anyhoo). Today I went to Winchester and I visited at least a dozen such establishments and after much rummaging through hideous 80s polyester managed to find one bit of fabric worth buying…

There’s a couple of meters here of possibly the itchiest woollen fabic in the world, but I was getting a bit desperate. I’m thinking ‘bags’ as opposed to clothing with this, so hopefully the itchiness won’t be an issue.

My shopping adventure wasn’t too much of a disaster though, I went to an upholstery shop and got this remnant of a Sanderson print for £1. Sanderson, in case you aren’t a fabric-geek like I now seem to be, is a great find if you can get your hands on it at a bargain price like this. Goody…

Oh, and I popped into New Look too (left Mark in Costa with a double espresso and a newspaper – boys and clothes shopping = nightamare). I got a lovely top which is made from organic cotton. You can tell it’s organic because the price label is made of brown card and tied on with hairy jute-like string. I like it though, quite piratey. Ooh look at that annoying ribbony bit for getting it to stay on the hanger. Where are my scissors? It’s not like this is ever going to see any sort of hanger ever again…
